No high-level conversations have been scheduled today between the presidents of the United States and Mexico. Despite this, the U.S. government has continued with its plan to deport undocumented migrants. The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, confirmed that "there are already conversations" when questioned about the matter during her tour in Oaxaca.
The bilateral dialogue between the two countries began last week, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Mexican Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente. The president did not provide detailed information, limiting herself to stating that it focused on migration and border security.
On the other hand, Rubio reported that the Stay in Mexico plan has returned, which implies the cancellation of asylum requests at the application stage, changing the border crossing process. So far, asylum seekers are expected to wait on the Mexican side of the border, which has raised concerns given the shortage of shelters and places to accommodate these people in Mexico.
In the recent situation, it was revealed that planes were sent to Brazil and Colombia. Colombia rejected a plane with migrants from the country, leading to a dispute with the U.S. government and threats of tariffs from Trump. In Mexico, a similar situation was seen when the government rejected a plane with undocumented migrants from Central American countries.
The Mexican Foreign Ministry reiterated the importance of maintaining a good relationship with the United States for the well-being of both peoples. Sheinbaum, the Mexican president, postponed addressing the issue until tomorrow, Monday.
